Hand carved wood artisanry

Project Omer
My initiative to raise funds for our troops who suffer from PTSD and sometimes get lost and forgotten.
Over 11 years, Canada sent 40,000 troops and suffered 168 deaths and 2,000 injuries in Afghanistan. Today, there are 20,000 veterans presently living with PTSD.

Over 2 years I carved 168 unique hardwood poppies, one for each of our exceptional military and civilian souls lost in Afghanistan. They are modeled from variations of Canadian, British and French poppies. Each is mounted on a curled maple leaf made of distressed camo textile and is about 8 inches tall.

The intent is to sell these objects to raise funds for our veterans suffering from PTSD, specifically those falling through the cracks in our system.

The project is named in honour of my great grandfather, who died from mustard gas poisoning in the trenches of WW1 near St-Julien. He was 42, volunteered after his wife passed from cancer, leaving his 2 little girls in the hands of a great aunt.
